Timber Lodges Spain

 Why Atlantic Forest Park?

Atlantic Parks are developing 2 parks in southern Spain, the first of these is well established and moving into its second phase. Atlantic Forest Park is on the Costa de la Luz, or “Coast of Light”, in the very south of Spain in the Cadiz province of Andalusia and provides a new kind of eco-development that is in keeping with the beautiful forest surroundings.

Imagine owning a home in Spain that is both environmentally friendly, fantastic value for money and set in beautiful surroundings near the beach.

Welcome to Atlantic Forest Park and your dreams come true.

You have many options open for a location for your Timber Lodge in Spain; just within Andalusia there are many. These include the hot interior, the cold high mountains and the built up over developed Mediterranean coast.

Our clients have one thing in common; they all want beautiful forest surroundings and a warm costal climate. If you want hustle and bustle then Atlantic Parks is not for you; although Torremolinos is not far away we are a world apart.

Once you decide on the coast of light (Costa de la Luz) you can then choose a Timber Lodge that suits your needs. We have a choice of build styles and will build the home of your dreams to your exact specifications in just months.

You also get to choose your plot and each one is different and there are no regimented lines of homes that you may associate with holiday parks. Here, you are in a forest, and the trees dictate where the roads go and the houses too. Some plots are shaded with trees and some are open to the sun all year round and you get to choose the exact spot you want.

When you visit Atlantic Forest Park you will be able to stand on each plot to experience the view. Each plot is different and some clients return at different times of day to their favourite ones before they finally decide.

No matter what your hobby you will be well catered for here with PGA recommended golf courses; miles of golden sandy beaches; beautiful white villages; amazing fishing; famous bird watching; stunning walks; plenty of shopping; historic towns and sites; vineyards open to the public; sea and lake sailing; huge national parks and reserves; horse riding and trekking; adventure 4x4 trails; fabulous restaurants; more tapas bars than donkeys; and much, much more to do and enjoy.

You will be spoilt with choice and even after years living here many of our residents still have a long “to do” list. This may be because Atlantic Forest Park is so tranquil and yet full of life you will not want to leave it.

When you visit Atlantic Forest Park on a Discovery Break you will get a glimpse of what this picturesque area has to offer.

Atlantic Forest Park - A New Kind of Park for a New Age

Atlantic Forest Park is set, as the name suggests, in a forest near the Atlantic coast of southern Andalucía; what is know as the Costa de la Luz (The Coast of Light). The park is set in amazing countryside and peace and tranquillity are the watch words. There is an incredible amount of resident wildlife as well as many migratory birds that too and fro between Europe and Africa.

Set in 66 acres of beautiful woodland which is a haven for birds and other wildlife and positioned near the Costa de la Luz it is somewhat more akin to the parks of southern France with its green hills covered in trees, but with the added advantage of great weather and all year opening. The Park ethos is tranquillity and greenness, with trees all around, grass between the plots, and allotments which are available for residents to grow vegetables, fruit and flowers. We are in the heart of rural Spain but only 10 minutes from the fantastic Atlantic beaches.

The park has been increasingly in the news because of its refreshing approach to touristic development and the managment's determination to have as lower impact on the environment as possible. The Timber Lodges that Atlantic Parks build are in keeping with the forest surroundings and solar power and special heat pumps make the project even more eco-friendly.

After one year in operation the Park is going from strength to strength and there are now 12 couples resident on the park. With the very personable Ken Field as the park manager there is already a real sense of community and fellowship. The residents also get involved with the Park’s monthly newsletter which is sent out for free to all those who want it.

We are also now able to boast not just SKY TV but also a new Wi-Fi internet system giving people internet in their homes.

Timber Lodges Spain

We asked Ron and Joan for some input for last months Park Magazine. Below is a resume of some of the questions asked of my wife and myself on a regular basis by family, friends and also prospective buyers we meet at Atlantic Forest park in southern Spain.

1. How did the two of you find out about Atlantic Forest Park?
We firstly saw an advert in the Mobile and Holiday Home Magazine whilst in the UK, the rest we found out via the internet from which we arranged a site visit.

2. Why then did you decide to buy your lodge?
We had decided to look for a home in Spain as an alternative to our home in the UK about 6 months prior to our site visit, as soon as we saw Atlantic Forest Park on our visit, and the area in which it was situated our mind was more or less made up. The initial determining factor was when we viewed the Show Lodge which we found to be excellent value for money.

3. How do you find the staff who run the park?
The main person whom we deal with is obviously the Park Manager Ken Field. Ken is a down to earth Scotsman who is always available to sort out any issues we come across, but above all in an honest and absolutely genuine individual, which is very rarely found in our experience on holiday parks in the UK. The second person worthy of mention at the park is Oscar who is the Spanish representative, who once again is always there to help with any sort of issue we may come across. In particular dealing with obtaining Spanish residencia and local Padron.

4. How have you found the experience since you bought your lodge?
My wife and I have now been in our lodge since May 2008 and we can honestly say that we have loved every minute, as we still have a home in the UK we returned there for the summer, returning to Spain at the end of September. The area of the Costa de la Luz is everything the brochure makes it out to be and much more. From the quiet roads to the wonderful beaches which are within a 10 minute drive. We are both looking forward to future years now that we can explore the rest of Southern Andalusia at our leisure.

The Park Manager

Leisure Lodges SpainMy Wife and I bought our first old touring caravan in 1976, touring much of the UK and Europe during the holidays. Most weekends were spent rallying with the caravan club, where I served on the local committee for years holding the offices of secretary, vice chairman, and chairman.

For the next seventeen years we continued to caravan, the kids grew up and left home so in 1999 we sold the house, closed down the business, packed the caravan and headed form the South of France to work on a mobile home park near St. Tropez from March to October, bringing the tourer to the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz in the winter months.

After two years we bought our first Spanish mobile home on a park near Antequera. We wintered there while we still worked Summers in France for another two years. In 2003 we stayed all year in Spain when I started working on several of the new parks which had developed in the Antequera area until 2007, when we moved to Atlantic Forest Park. Give me this life any day.

I’ve met so many lovely people (some not so nice of course) through my experience with caravans, mobile homes, and the people who live in them I’ve had many a laugh, and a few tears, but wouldn’t change it, and look forward to many more years of the same here at Atlantic Forest Park.

Local Beach

Great Beaches of Golden Sand

The Costa de la Luz starts at Portugal and runs all the way down to the very bottom of Spain just a few miles from the top of Africa, for a more detailed look at the coast see the Costa de la Luz page of this website. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean with its large golden sandy beaches it is similar to the southern Atlantic coast of France but less developed and with nicer weather!

Beautiful White Villages and the Spain of Old

The Park is set a few miles inland in the middle of a large bay that starts at one end at Trafalgar, a well known area if only by the historical name, and ends in the less known but very pretty beach of Atlantera. In the middle is the little fishing village of Zahara de los Atunes, which is our local town, and as the name suggests this town is famous for tuna which people have travelled the world to fish here for thousands of years.

Zahara is a small town but bursts into life at the weekends and in the summer months as the restaurants spill out onto the street and people enjoy the alfresco drinking and dining. There are lots of great walks in the area, not just on the 10 miles of uninterrupted beach, but in the surrounding hills too.

Great Golf and other Activities

Near the Park are some fantastic golf courses including Montenmedio, a par 72 PGA recommended course set in a beautiful countryside and with a fabulous country club.

As well as the golf residents can enjoy a host of other activities such as fishing; sailing; bird watching; whale and dolphin watching; and North Africa is just a half an hour away on the ferry.

Exploring the local towns is also a great pastime with near by white hilltop villages that typify Andalusia such as Vejer and Cadiz and Jerez les than an hour's drive away. A trip to Gibraltar will be a popular excursion for residents too as it affords a chance to stock up on the harder to find items that Marks and Spencer, BHS and the other high street stores provide. The list of things to do could go on - no doubt residents will discover even more of the area’s many treasures.
